TONIGHT was the first time I’ve ever seen an actual feature film at an IMAX cinema. And let me tell you something: it won’t be the last.
Utterly amazing experience, and that was just the trailers. The screen is just so vast, you almost have to turn your head to be able to view different parts of the action. Star Trek itself was captivating and flawless from the very start. Chris Pine was very impressive as Kirk, but the bloke who played McCoy stole every scene he was in. The plot was almost a little too clever, using a time travel paradox conveniently to re-invent the Trek myth.
Enthralling nevertheless, with one of those endings the Americans are so good at, pulling the audience in so that we almost cheered along with the Starfleet cadets at the end.
The IMAX theatre made it an almost intimate experience: the events are so large that you feel it’s happening, if not all around you, then certainly just a few inches in front of you.
Brilliant casting, clever plot, funny and intelligent script, breathtaking special effects. So, in summary: not bad.

"... its five-year mission: to completely requantify the meaning of 'five years'. And to drive grammar nazis up the wall."

It was wonderful. Bugger the plot, the casting was so good they could’ve played out The Final Frontier and it would have been great.
Well, almost.

We’re going to see it tomorrow*. Enuff with the spoilers.
(trying not to look too hard to see if they *are* spoilers)
*which is today. Better rest so I can see it at my best.

Welcome to the IMAX revolution! Your next task is to see a 3D film at the IMAX, that’ll blow your mind!
Also, if they show a repeat of it, seeing The Dark Knight or Batman Begins is a must-see at the IMAX.

I know what you mean, Tom. IMAX is extraordinary. Breathtaking.
Mind you,if it’s good enough, a tale can be as mesmerising in a book, or on a stage with a single actor, as in any IMAX theatre.
In fact, I’ve always felt that there’s an important component of pleasure missing from these overt extravaganzas, which limits them creatively, despite their size.
Intimacy.

Confession: I’ve now seen it twice.
