DOES anyone else share my surprise that no-one has thought to fill an apparent gap in the market in Middle East countries?
Every time they have a demonstration, their flags end up going up in flames! You would have thought that by now someone would have produced a flame-retardant flag. Time for someone to step in a make a fortune, perhaps?
"Oh bugger, not again! What about a petition, then…?"

Yes, and can they be made boot-retardent as well..?

but have the demonstrators done a health and safety assessment followed by an environmental impact assessment and i am sure there is an eu directive covering the burning of flags in an al fresco situation?

There is no better site than seeing the symbol of british Imperialism burned and the most evil of nations condemned for being the tyrannical fascist state that it is.

Apparently you have to be careful the flags don’t spit molten polyester on you. Ouch!
Of course, burning flags is easy, if dangerous. Redesigning them is more fun.

A flame-retardant flag? Nah, the more they burn, the more you sell ‘em! Perhaps we could stimulate the economy by exporting more Union Flags for them to burn….

Sadly, Jay, the budget Union flags are made in the Far East. The proper sewn flags are far too nice (and expensive) to burn.
Fortunately, the latter are usually flown and so the wind, rain and occasional thief ensure repeat custom.

I rather like Gore vidal’s quip when asked to condemn the burning of US flags by Americans opposed to the Viet Nam war.
“Absolutely,” he replied. “They should be washing it.”

Fantastic Tom. This may be a good opportunity to acknowledge the progressive employers in the UK who must allow all those thousands of folk who like to demonstrate take time off work to travel to Westminster or Heathrow or Power Stations at the drop of a hat to vent their anger.
Off to buy some Israeli Oranges…delish!

S’right, Stewart. Other countries have obviously already cornered the market in British flags for burning. Shouldn’t wonder if they make Union Flag loo rolls, too…

Oh dear, that would put more children out of a job in the 3rd world sweatshops.

I’m disgusted at you.
I am proud to say I went the whole of the 1990s without touching a single South African fruit or vegetable.
It was a bit tough as I was a greengrocer in Johannesburg at the time.
I’m here all week.

Hm…. it wouldn’t sell very well though to those middle east protesters though would it? If they knew it wouldn’t burn????
