RORY Bremner seems to think that affecting a Scottish accent is all it takes to impersonate the PM. John Culshaw, on the other hand, has nailed it.
I’m sure even Gordon would find this funny…

Irony (from the Ancient Greek εἰρωνεία eirōneía, meaning hypocrisy, deception, or feigned ignorance) is a situation, literary or rhetorical device, in which there is an incongruity, discordance or unintended connection that goes beyond the most evident meaning.
This has been a public service comment.

Rory Bremner is of course an Edinburgh boy and knows an accent isn’t enough – he’s actually not that bad at Broon, but Jon Culshaw is a genius, and the Impressions show has been magnificent so far.
Admire your optimism re GB’s sense of humour.
Oh and you were right to close the Saaed thread – can imagine the stuff that would be coming through from all angles, alas.

I just can’t conjure up a picture of G guffawing with laughter at, well anything, really.
I’m probably wrong and there are photos of him ROFL at old Chick Murray routines.

Jay you are not wrong; I very much doubt if Gordon Brown would or indeed could understand Chic’s jokes. GB is a very clever man but he is one of those very clever men for whom humour is alien.
Sample Chic Murray joke:
‘My parents didn’t understand me – they were Japanese’.
Oor Dear Leader would struggle with that one for days.

Tom Harris. For free speech as long as it doesn’t make him nervous.
‘Hat tip’ btw.

I have to admit that I find Rory Bremner deeply unfunny when he does his political stuff.

Classic. “Because it’s the right thing to do”, Obama Beach’s only justification for doing, well, anything and everything these days.

Although I can quite imagine the comments in the Saeed thread you were not approving, Tom, I have to express my disappointment at its being closed.
The onslaught against you came from a surly, ignorant and destructive mob of Snuppies whose tactic is to drown-out any dissenting view – to shut-down conversations they ain’t in control of.
As far as I can see, the little totalitarians succeeded.

I quite liked Bremner’s (or was it Culshaw’s?) mincing angry-shouty-pointy-finger impression of the Messiah’s Messiah.
Anyway, here’s my impression of Gordon Brown.
Coughs…
Clears throat…
A complete and utter ****.
Just my impression. Not saying anyone has to agree with me.

I agree with Alec, shame it was shut down – makes me really hunger for those comments that had the thread shut down.
Fair play to Tom, he started the thread and made his thoughts plain, but there is an argument that sunlight is the best disinfectant and all views should be aired and thoroughly refuted if they be misguided.

Back on topic, not as funny as this, of course:

What a brilliant accent!!! etc. etc.
What a trendy politician you are to be getting this entertainment out.
This is my ‘good old’ song “Gordon Brown be my Angel” – the PM didn’t have such a bad time with it.

Brahms Lullaby
Gordon Brown! Gordon Brown!
Will you be my angel?
Guardian angel is what I meant
Will you rescue my soul?
For you are in charge
Of these people I wrote to
Stephen Timms, Jack Straw
Let me place my trust in you
Gordon Brown! MP’s!
Let me sing out loud
For what you do, for my country
For my reproductive system
You right wrongs! My right’s been wronged
I am desperate for you
Not just you! There’s Jon Herring
I’m a violated woman
Gordon Brown, help me sleep!
Help me sleep like a baby
Will my babies ever come out?
Maternal desires!
I lost my womanhood
In a sinister curse
Gordon Brown! Bring it back!
You are perfect for that!
