FOR REASONS unknown, Conservative-controlled West Sussex County Council have decided to hide their light under a bushel and have deleted their now famous self-help video on how to use a mobile phone. You might recall I featured it a couple of days ago, but to be fair it was initially discovered by Man Widdicombe and Iain Dale.
Wonder why they’ve pulled it?
Still, at least you can still watch How to read a map and How to wash your hands. The one I’m really looking forward to is How to dip your biscuit in your tea without it getting too soggy and falling in.

I recall HMG offered advice on how to wash hands in connection with the flu epidemic. It is certainly standard instruction in food handling training.
Unfortunately not everyone does this properly, nor uses a handkerchief when sneezing. The alternative of using the crook of one’s arm when caught without a tissue/hanky hasn’t occurred to many either.
I suspect that WSCC have removed the Phone vid from YouTube because its purpose of attracting customs for their courses (as I understood it) has become outweighed by other attention.
West Sussex is quite big; a Glasgae lad might need to read a map there.

You’re so right, Tom. Advice on biscuit dunking is long overdue. Hopefully the forthcoming video will include research findings into temperature of beverage, size and shape of drinking vessel, length of time biscuit should be submerged, and most important, an ordered list of the most dunkable biscuits. Also maybe, current advice on how to rescue a soogy biscuit that has dropped to the bottom of the cup, particularly in public. Could it also include the optimum method of dunking a chocolate Hobnob without losing all the chocolate.
Actually, I’m surprised your Government hasn’t already issued guidance on this vital aspect of modern life. Still, that’s Labour for you At least Tory local councils are doing something about it!!
Do you think they will finally answer the question of whether a fig roll actually is a biscuit?

I wonder if there’s a self-help video by WSCC on how to delete videos from youtube?

What about a video on managing your finances? Basic things like “don’t live on credit”, “don’t spend money you don’t have”, etc.
Copies to 10 Downing St and certain banks….

I’m looking forward to Glasgow City Council’s guide on how to drink a bottle of tonic wine and eat a half pizza supper without dropping/spilling any.
I’m sure there are thousands of Glaswegians who could do with the advice.

I have conducted dunking experiments, over a number of years, with biscuits ranging in density from Tunnock’s Caramel Logs to Walker’s Shortbread Fingers. I have found that Peter Kay provides excellent guidance on the relative tensile strength of a range of popular biscuits. See:

I can commend this video to West Sussex CC as part of its ‘How To..’ series.

Rapunzel, New Labour has failed to address the soggy biscuit issue, though Harriet Harman has been seen hobnobbing with the toffs recently.
Given that Garibaldi was a rampant leftie, you might expect it. At least he wasn’t a Ginger.
The main issue, as I see it, is the danger of placing a jaffa cake in your mouth, upside down. Try it, it is like drinking coffee when you think it is tea. It is like being drunk, which is not so bad, unless you are a glass of water. Expect the EU to deal with this soon.
As for public information films, Tom has picked a soft target. I worked for the COI. We worked darn hard to ensure the safety and health of the unwashed masses…

As you know tom Labour has controlled all councils by linking grants to certain projects. I would suspect this is what this is.
If this is what they are spending their money on you have given them too much for your silly projects.

‘How to persuade people to eat Christmas Cake for Breakfast’ might have a fairly widespread currency . . .

I was looking forward to West Sussex Council’s guidance on how to get out of bed without injuring myself. I’m sure there must be plenty of ‘elf n safety regulations they could have brought into play for that one.
Living in Surrey is just becoming so difficult and dangerous. Surrey County Council have confirmed to me that they have no plans to produce a series of such helpful and informative instructions with my council tax. So I’ll just have to think for myself.

Surrey CC has not been idle, whatever they say on the matter.

A taster of their Question Time feature, suggesting they plonk more than most. Pictures of senior council figures etc.
There’s more.

Actually Organisations do this sort of thing.
I worked for IBM for almost a year too long in the early ’70s and well recall a house magazine in which was published a letter from a manager querying wether it was appropriate to have an interest outside IBM.

McVites & Bristol University have been looking into this vital area.

“You have got a race between the dissolving of the sugar and your biscuit falling apart and a swelling of the starch grains so that they stick together, giving you a biscuit which is purely starch but rather softer than what you started with,”

Glad to hear you weren’t violated

[...] What am I going to do? How am I going to learn how to use my mobile phone now? WSCC went to all the trouble and expense of producing a (presumably) excellent video tutorial on how to make a phone call, but before I get a chance to watch it they take it down! (According to Tom Harris) [...]

Glass houses and stones.
Where are your campaigns against the millions spent by your government on promoting their own policies.

My Comments on the blog to which I see a reference above were made some hours ago, immediately after the blog was advertised on Twitter, but, mysteriously have neither appeared nor been rejected:
“The vid is a taster which has helped WSCC attract people onto 23 courses in how to make better use of your mobile phone.
“I am sure they will direct you to one suitable for your level of ability if you dial . .
“Oh well, forget it.”
