THIS week’s podcast is unusual in that it features a real life celeb: Dave Rowntree, drummer in Blur – one of Britain’s most successful bands of all time and the name which helped define “Britpop” – and who also happens to be Labour’s candidate for the general election in Cities of London and Westminster.
Dave came along to the House of Commons Terrace this week to talk about his campaign, his support for Labour (and for electoral reform – booo!) and about life as a rock ‘n’ roll star. It was a genuine pleasure to meet him – very charming and likeable and completely down to earth. I hope that comes across in the podcast. It’s about 14 minutes long.
One clarification: I told him that “Parklife” was one of my all-time favourite albums. It’s not – I meant to say “Modern Life is Rubbish”. I hope that’s clear.
Okay, press “play”.

Wow, clebrity endorsdments in 1997 seemes gratuitous and of low value.
His already suspected ernestness is renforced by taking this step now.
Presumably he is also as weathly as one would decently wish to be, hopefully this combines to provide a pretty intractable, scrupulus and principled edition to the house.
I also wish him luck. Or at least the most luck I can muster for a New Labour candidate.

Blur were always nice boys.
It would be a lot more fun if you had one of the Gallaghers as a candidate, but they might be a bit too working class for the Labour party these days.

What is the world coming to if my only disagreement with Observer is the relative merits of Travis over Blue?
Still, I admit the Brown Sugars have some merits.
