NOW this is new: having a jingle on your website during an election campaign – and a very professionally-produced one, too.
The political pioneer in question is the amiable Tory MP Greg Knight, standing for re-election in East Yorkshire. Listen to the annoyingly-catchy music here.
Greg is not a newcomer to this blog, since I’ve written before about the band in which he is the drummer, MP4. I called him today to find out if the suspiciously professional quality of his jingle is a result of his long friendship with Frankie Valli of Four Season fame. But he revealed that it is, in fact, the handiwork of one Des Dyer, who readers of a certain age (including me) will recall hitting the charts with his band Jigsaw in the ’70s with Sky High (iTunes link).
“We met when I was a law student and playing the drums in a band at the time,” said Greg. “Des is a supporter and said he didn’t want to knock on doors for me but he would write a jingle if I wanted.” Which he did.
So, all together now: ♫ Conservatives work for you, vote for Greg Knight and you’ll never lose…♫ Actually, let’s not bother…
